Robots That Jump

Robot Bodies Needed Before Robot Minds

Some Resources

It’s always worth looking through aggregrators for stories on robotics. Unlike the one-off in the general tech press, they are often worth reading:

Meanwhile, the desire for (and to be) a lame sex doll continues unabated:

Festo has built a nice little robot kangaroo that can jump. Pneumatic power, good energy recovery, and, as always from Festo, a nice mechanism. “http://www.festo.com/cms/en_corp/13704.htm”

Now this is interesting! One of the problems with robot motion is that there is typically no attempt to store energy passively for the next movement. People and animals rely on stretchy tendons for part of the walk cycle. Part of the walk is out of control of the control system. In contrast, the typical robot with stepper motor design defines motion in a less useful way – navigation to 3D points in space, achieved through exact 3d positioning of components in the robot.
